Hip Hop and endorsements don’t mix, everyone is loosing endorsement deals now a days first there was Chris Brown with Double Mint (Gum) then Rick Ross with Reebok and now lil wayne with Mountain Dew
Lil Wayne recently hopped on the remix to Future’s cut “Karate Chop” where he used the rap line “Pop a lot of pain pills, ’bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels … beat that p***y up like Emmett Till.”– Emmett Till being a young African- American man during the period of segregation who’s body was beaten, battered, wired and thrown into the bottom of a river by a group of white men; due to mis-communication.
Wayne’s Publicist Sarah Cunningham announced that the split was due to “creative differences”, while PepsiCo executives issued the statement “Lil Wayne’s offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.” While the statement was a bit vulgar, the issue still poses again..Should these Franchise brands be so optimistic to go into partnership with artists if they aren’t at all costs prepared for any type of backlash? They are rappers after all.
Lil Wayne acted as a prominent figure for Mountain Dew with his 2012 “DEWeezy Campaign” encouraging people of all kinds to be fearless and “dew you” What stops Mountain Dew now? Who know’s.. Will they ever sign him back? Anything is possible. Check for updates as the story progresses.
Araab Muzik (Abraham Orellana) was recently shot during a case of attempted robbery. The Source Magazine gets word from Araab’s publicist that the shooting and robbery was “wrong time, wrong place scenario” where Araab was caught up. Araab is currently at the hospital in stable condition, where our prayers go out to this Hip Hop trend-setter.
Araab’s manager Duke Da God gave this statement
“He’s in stable condition at the hospital in RI. He was shot in the back last night… wrong place wrong time with wrong person. He should be in the hospital for a week or so and expected to make a full recovery!” -Duke Da God
Araab collaborated with Avatar Darko and he also had this to say:
“My lil brodi too trill! They tried to rob him and he ain’t come up off his shit so they tried get him outta there! He meant to be here! Foh!” —AVA†AR DARKO
Araab Muzik recently did an interview with Vice where they talked to him about his jewelry and style. Below you can see a close up of the $50,000 MPC chain he has with extravagant details and diamonds. The robbery attempt may have had something to do with this piece of jewelry.
Reebok tells TMZ … “Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so.”
Reebok goes on: “While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse.”
